We drank beer in the Klondike bar
the jukebox played up against the wall
you redneck mothers
an old lady with a round eye
gave me a long hard look
We camped out at the cove
with a jangly kid from Chicago
who worried over where to get a good steak
how the bulls were doing
in the playoffs
we were marked by the last weeks
in the wilderness
we had almost died!
and the idea of town was
hard to swallow
we gave it a go, hiked up
Mt. Ripinski
then headed south on the ferry
It wasn't until somewhere near the Canadian boundary
that I regretted how much I had missed
of Haines alaska
